Unit sizes can range from Studio (sleeps 2) to 3 bedroom (sleeps 8). The number of points required to reserve a unit depends on the time of year. The calendar is divided into, in the order of increasing points requirements, Relax, Opportunity, Activity, Peak, and Holiday periods. In addition, the number of points required for a reservation depends on:

  • size of unit – bigger unit requires more points.
  • day of week – weekends require more points.

Making Reservations

You can make reservations of more than 6 nights up to 11 months before check-in. If you are trying to make a reservation for less than 6 nights, you can make that reservation up to 4 months in advance. Also, please note, any reservation made with your Club Intrawest can be transferred to any family or friends you would wish to transfer them to.

Consecutive Reservations

If a reservation for 6 nights or more has been made for one Club location, a second reservation at another Club location for dates directly preceding or following the first reservation may be made up to 11 months in advance for a minimum 2 night stay. This feature has been very useful for owners that have a reservation in Whistler, and fly into Vancouver, then wanted to add a couple of days to their trip in Vancouver, before their reservation in Whistler.

Weekend Reservations

Only one weekend reservation may be held at one time for each 80 Club Intrawest points owned. There is a 2 night minimum on all weekends.

Exchange Program

Intrawest also operates an exchange program for Club Intrawest members, called ExtraOrdinary Escapes. ExtraOrdinary Escapes is not offered for resale accounts, unless the account is sold above a certain price threshold, which is determined by Club Intrawest.

There is a fee for this program that is over and above the annual maintenance fees on Club Intrawest points. ExtraOrdinary Escapes vacations can be reserved up to 12 months in advance of your desired travel dates. Reservation requests are fulfilled by Gold Crown RCI locations. You can also take advantage of RCI’s “Extra Vacations” and “Last Call” offers by paying choosing to pay cash, and not using any of your points. You can also use your points with independent resorts, hotels and cruise partners.

Thankfully, trading your points is very simple. You can deposit 150 Club Intrawest points for 1 week in a 2 bedroom in red, or peak, season at any resort within the RCI system. You can also make a request for an RCI exchange 45 days or less from check-in date for vastly reduced price. It only costs 40 points for whichever size unit is available. This means that if a 2 bedroom unit is available, it will only cost you 40 points, provided that your booking 45 days or less from check-in date.

Club Intrawest owners are not required to belong to Extraordinary Escapes. Club Intrawest reservations can also be traded through the Interval International company some Club Intrawest owners find that they are able to obtain better trades in this manner. In order to trade through II, Club Intrawest owners must also be members of Interval International’s programme. In addition, only 7 night reservations (Sunday – Sunday) made at CI’s Whistler, Palm Desert or Tremblant locations can be traded through II. If you became a Club Intrawest owner after 2001, Club Intrawest will not allow exchanges through II, only memberships dating from 2001 or earlier are permitted to register with II. Even if II has taken your payment for membership, they will get a refusal from Club Intrawest and will be unable to process your request. It can take up to 8 weeks for reimbursement from II if this occurs.

Price

Like every other timeshare developer, it costs a much more to buy Club Intrawest points directly from the developer at a presentation than buying on the resale market. Costs can be as low as 50% of the cost that is charged at a presentation for an ownership.

Due to the fact that Club Intrawest can be transferred from owner to owner, the resale market is a very effective way to buy your ownership. One major consideration is Right of First Refusal, which can prevent ownerships from being sold for much less than roughly 25% of the presentation prices. You can learn more about this program by reading our article on Club Intrawest Right of First Refusal.

Recently (in 2007), the developer changed the rules regarding transfer of membership in Extraordinary Escapes. Members who buy points from other members are only eligible to join the Extraordinary Escapes program if they paid at least $150 per point, and also pay an additional $12-per-point fee to the developer. This was probably an effort by the developer to increase the price at which members were selling their points in the secondary market.
