Understanding Abound Club Points Reservation Windows: How to Plan Your Vacations Like An Expert

Planning a vacation with your Abound by Marriott Vacations points can be an exciting process, but understanding how reservation windows work is key to securing your ideal accommodations. The Abound program offers a structured system of reservation windows that prioritize different membership levels and booking timelines. In this article, we’ll break down the reservation windows, explain how they work, and provide tips to help you plan your next trip with confidence.

What Are Reservation Windows?

Reservation windows are specific timeframes during which members can book accommodations using their Abound points. These windows are designed to ensure fair access to high-demand properties and allow members to plan their vacations in advance. The reservation system is divided into four main windows. Each window has its own rules and timelines, which vary based on your membership level and the type of reservation you’re making.

Below is a breakdown of each reservation priority, highlighting its unique characteristics and rules:

Priority 1 Period

  • Who Can Book: Chairman’s Club, Presidential, and Executive Members.
  • When It Opens: 13 months (+/- 6 days based on the Call-In Calendar) before the desired check-in date.
  • Booking Rules:
    • Members can book stays of 1 or more nights.
    • Select and standard members cannot book during this period.
    • This window offers the earliest access to accommodations, giving higher-tier members priority for high-demand properties and dates.
  • Notes: Luxury properties (except The Ritz-Carlton Club, Vail) may have limited availability during this period to ensure access for other members in later windows.

Priority 2 Period

  • Who Can Book: Chairman’s Club, Presidential, Executive, Select, and standard Members.
  • When It Opens: 12 months (+/- 6 days based on the Call-In Calendar) before the desired check-in date.
  • Booking Rules:
    • Chairman’s Club, Presidential, and Executive Members can book stays of 1 or more nights.
    • Select and standard members must book a minimum of 7 consecutive nights.
  • Notes: Luxury properties (except The Ritz-Carlton Club, Vail) may still have limited availability during this period to ensure access for later windows.

Priority 3 Period

  • Who Can Book: All members, including Chairman’s Club, Presidential, Executive, Select, and standard Members.
  • When It Opens: 10 months (+/- 6 days based on the Call-In Calendar) before the desired check-in date.
  • Booking Rules:
    • All members can book stays of 1 or more nights.
    • This window provides broader access to accommodations for all membership levels.
  • Notes: Luxury properties (except The Ritz-Carlton Club, Vail) become fully available to all members during this period.

Open Reservation Period

  • Who Can Book: All members, regardless of membership level.
  • When It Opens: 60 days before the desired check-in date and remains open until the day of check-in.
  • Booking Rules:
    • Members can book stays of 1 or more nights.
    • Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis for any remaining availability.
  • Notes: This period is ideal for last-minute bookings or filling gaps in travel plans.

How the Call-In Calendar Works

The Call-In Calendar is a tool that helps members determine the exact date they can start making reservations for their desired check-in dates. The calendar is structured to ensure a fair and organized booking process. Here’s a simplified version of how it works:

If You Are Reserving: And Your Desired Check-In Is: The First Day to Check Availability Is:
7 or more nights and are calling for a Priority 1 Reservation Wednesday – Tuesday Tuesday 13 months prior to check-in
1 or more nights and are calling for a Priority 1
Reservation (Presidential and Chairman’s Club Members only)
Wednesday – Tuesday Tuesday 13 months prior to check-in
7 or more nights and are calling for a Priority 2 Reservation Wednesday – Tuesday Friday 12 months prior to check-in
1 or more nights and are calling for a Priority 2 Reservation (Presidential and Chairman’s Club Members only) Wednesday – Tuesday Friday 12 months prior to check-in
1 or more night(s) and are calling for a Priority 3 Reservation Wednesday – Tuesday Tuesday 10 months prior to check-in
1 or more night(s) and are calling for a Luxury Property reservation other than Accommodations located in The Ritz-Carlton Club, Vail Wednesday – Tuesday Tuesday 6 months prior to check-in
1 or more night(s) and are calling for Open Reservation Time Wednesday – Tuesday Tuesday 60 days prior to check-in

Example:

If you’re a Chairman’s Club Member looking to book a 7-night stay with a check-in date of June 15, 2026, you can start checking availability on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. This is because availability is loaded into the booking tool on the Tuesday of the week that is 13 months prior to your desired check-in date.

Tips for Planning Your Vacation

  • Know Your Membership Level
Your membership level determines when you can start booking. Higher-tier members have earlier access, so it’s important to understand your level and its associated privileges.
  • Plan Ahead
Popular destinations and high-demand seasons can fill up quickly. Use the Call-In Calendar to mark your reservation dates and book as early as possible within your window.
  • Be Flexible
If your first-choice dates or accommodations aren’t available, consider alternative dates or properties. Flexibility can increase your chances of securing a reservation.
  • Understand Minimum Stay Requirements
During Priority 1 and Priority 2 periods, Select and standard members must book a minimum of 7 consecutive nights. Shorter stays are available starting in the Priority 3 Period.
  • Leverage the Open Reservation Period
If you’re planning a last-minute trip, the Open Reservation Period allows you to book any remaining availability up to the day of check-in.
