Owners and their guests are always looking forward to their booked vacations with Marriott Vacations Club, however other aspects of life may not always cooperate with a well-planned getaway. That is why understanding Marriott Vacations Club’s reservation cancellation policy is an important part of owning a Marriott timeshare.
Here is everything you need to know about the reservation cancellation process, so that you can save your points or weeks for your next travel date.
Marriott Vacation Club Cancellation Policy
Owners tend to book their vacations quite far in advance and due to that fact the sooner that you can cancel your reservation the better. When reservations are cancelled far ahead of time, there is a high likelihood that Marriott Vacations Club is able to rebook the reservation. However, the closer to the check in date, the harder it becomes for Marriott to rebook it. Therefore, there are penalties to owners who cancel close to their check in date.
Abound Club Points
| Cancellation / Modification Date (prior to check-in) |
Penalty | Holding Account |
|---|---|---|
| 61+ Days | No penalty | No – points used for a cancelled reservation are returned to your account and any points not used for a reservation modification are returned to your account |
| 60 – 1 Days | No penalty | Yes – points used for a cancelled reservation will be put into a holding account and any points not used for a reservation modification will be put into a holding account |
| On Check-In Day | Forfeiture of all points |
All points used for the reservation are forfeited and are not returned |
The cancellation policy for Marriott Vacation Club’s Abound Club Points is as followed:
- Cancelling 60 days or more before your scheduled arrival date – All Vacation Club Points will be added back to your account.
- Cancelling 1 to 60 days before your scheduled arrival date – Vacation Club Points are returned to the member, but placed within a holding account that limits their functionality. Owners are only able to use points in a holding account for travel that is booked 60 days or less prior to check-in.
- Cancelling on your arrival date – Vacation Club Points will not be returned.

Legacy Deeded Weeks
The cancellation policy for Marriott Vacation Club Legacy Weeks is a bit different than that of Abound Club Points.
- 60 days or more from scheduled arrival date – No penalty and the usage will be returned to the Owner account.
- 59 days or less from scheduled arrival date – Cancellations are not permitted.
Depositing Your Reservation with Interval International Instead of Cancelling

When your plans change 60 days or less before your check-in date, you may want to consider depositing your reservation into Interval International. For deeded week owners, cancellation at 59 days or fewer is basically forfeiting your vacation time, so you’re losing nothing when you deposit your reservation.
Deposits can be exchanged for another week up to 2 years from check-in date of the reservation you’ve deposited, so this is a great strategy for retaining the vacation time, with an added bonus of opening up thousands of new resorts to exchange into.
Depositing 59 to 31 Days Prior to Check-In
Recently, Interval International has updated it’s policies for last-minute exchanges to allow for regular deposits up to 31 days before check-in. If you’re between 59 to 31 days prior to check-in, you can simply deposit your reservation, and use it to book any available exchange for an additional 24 months.
Depositing 30 to 14 Days Prior to Check-In
In this range of time, Interval offers a program call FlexChange. This allows owners to deposit their reservations with as little as 14 days left before check-in, and still use this exchange for 24 months.
The trade-off is that when using FlexChange, you will only be able to exchange for reservations 30 days out or less. This is somewhat similar to a holding account, in that you’ll have to plan to use this exchange for last-minute travel.
