Marriott Vacation Club Holding Accounts: Everything You Need To Know

Over the past few years, we all have seen how quickly plans can change. Sometimes flexibility is needed when plans change. Luckily Marriott Vacation Club members have an easy way to cancel or modify their reservations without losing their Vacation points, if they are canceled at least 1 day prior to their reserved check-in day.

If you are a current or prospective Marriott Vacation Club member, you will want to familiarize yourself with Marriott Vacation Club’s cancellation policy to prevent forfeiture of your Abound Club points.

What Is A Holding Account?

Think of a Holding Account as a temporary “parking space” for Vacation Points from a Marriott Vacation Club reservation that was modified or canceled 60 days to 1 day prior to the reserved Check-In date.

Vacation Points in your Holding Account will be valid to book another reservation with, until the end of your Use Year, after which they will expire. You can use them the same as normal Vacation Points, except that reservations using Vacation Points that are in a holding account must be made within 60 to 120 days days before the new Check-In date, depending on your membership level. Also, you won’t be able to bank or borrow any vacation points that are kept in a Holding Account.

In the event of cancelling a reservation that is using banked or borrowed Vacation Points, the banked or borrowed points are not returned to their original Use Year. They will remain as banked or borrowed Vacation Points and stay in the Use Year of the canceled reservation.
