The secondary market (or resale market) is the financial ecosystem existing entirely outside of the resort developer’s control. It is where existing owners list, negotiate, and sell their timeshare deeds, points, or contracts to interested third parties. Because it excludes the developer’s bloated sales commissions and marketing costs, buyers on the secondary market can often acquire timeshares for 50% to 90% less than the retail price.
