How Trading Marriott Vacation Club Points With Interval International Works

With the flexibility of a points-based vacation ownership like Marriott Vacation Club, you are able to vacation at over 60 Marriott resorts at some of the most desirable vacation destinations. Although you could spend a lifetime vacationing within the Marriott Vacation Club network of resorts, what if you wish to experience resorts or locations that are not a part of Marriott’s impressive resort portfolio? What if your Vacation Points are set to expire soon, and you would like more time to use them? In this article, we will discuss how Marriott Vacation Club members are able to enjoy many additional vacation options by exchanging their Vacations Points with Interval International.

How Does Exchanging With Interval International Work?

Exchanging your Marriott Vacation Club Points through Interval affords you access to book over 1,000 additional resorts outside of the Marriott Vacation Club resort network. Understanding the basics of exchanging Marriott Vacation Club Points with Interval is as easy as learning a few key points that apply to every exchange:

  • The number of Vacation Club Points required to exchange will vary depending on your desired location and unit size, as well as the seasonal demand.
  • To determine seasonal demand of specific destinations, refer to the Travel Demand Index located in your Interval International Resort Directory at the beginning of each geographical region, which can be found it at IntervalWorld.com.
  • Review the Travel Demand Index and determine how many Vacation Club Points your exchange will require by referencing the chart that we’ve added below.

Travel Demand Index

The Travel Demand Index, also known as the TDI, gives Interval International members the value for their exchanged points. When initiating a trade with Interval International, you will need to deposit your Marriott Vacation Points. We’ve added a simple chart below to help you understand how many Marriott Vacation Points would need to be deposited to reserve 1 week within Interval International’s exchange system.

Demand TDI Range Studio 1 Bedroom 2 Bedroom 3 Bedroom 4 Bedroom
Peak 140-150 2,250 3,000 4,500 6,000 7,000
High 115-135 1,750 2,750 4,000 5,000 6,000
Medium 190-110 1,500 2,250 3,000 4,000 5,000
Low 50-85 1,000 1,500 2,250 3,000 4,000

Determining The TDI of Your Desired Resort

The Travel Demand Index, also known as the TDI, provides members with the converted point values from their deposit. These points will go into the Preferred Points member account and then will be able to be used to book resorts in the Interval International system. You can review the Interval International Resort Directory that provides access to the Travel Demand Index for each resort to get a feel for the projected availability vs. demand for that particular region. We’ve added a sample chart of the Orlando and New York regions below so you can get a feel for how to read the chart.

Orlando Region Interval International TDI Chart
Orlando Region Interval International TDI Chart
New York City Region Interval International TDI Chart
New York City Region Interval International TDI Chart

As you can see in the charts above, the numbers of each week in the year are listed from the top down, and the Travel Demand Index is listed from left to right. Keep in mind, there are different charts for each region, and, as pictured above, the Travel Demand Index number can be different from year to year.

Using the Travel Demand Index to find the cost of other resorts is a straight-forward affair. All you need to do is line up the unit size you want with the time of year you wish to travel and then you can see the associated points value needed for your vacation.

How Long Do I Have After Depositing Marriott Vacation Points Into Interval International To Use Them?

Some members may be wondering how long you have to make a reservation through Interval International once the deposit goes through. Depositing your Marriott Vacation Points with Interval International is a great way to gain more flexibility in travel plans. Once the points are deposited, owners no longer need to travel before the Vacation Points’ expiration with Marriott. Interval International provides two years from the expiration date of the points that are deposited for an exchange. This is a great benefit for owners who would like to bank their vacation time with Interval International to extend the amount of time they have before being required to book a vacation.

Using Interval International With Marriott Vacation Points

Using Waitlists Interval International

Resort and a specific week’s availability is based on the deposits made by Interval International’s members, so there may be times that reservations at specific resorts are more limited. Members are able to make requests for weeks that are not currently available in order to be placed on a waiting list. This waiting list is first come first serve, so it is best to put in these requests early on in your vacation planning. When placing their request, members are able to select as many weeks, resorts, and locations as they would like. If the preferred week becomes available, Interval International will confirm the week and let the member know via email.

Trading Power

Owning a Marriott Vacation Club membership is one of the best ways to ensure you have a high trading power with Interval International. This is due to the fact that Marriott properties are known to offer a high quality of accommodations and the locations Marriott has chosen for their resorts are usually in high demand, especially in peak seasons. Owners can also increase their trading power by owning a resort that is rated by Interval with a high TDI, as well as depositing weeks early to Interval International.

What About Marriott Legacy Weeks That Are Deeded To One Resort?
