Two New Abound Membership Levels Are Being Added

Marriott Vacations is introducing two new upper-level tiers to the Abound Owner Benefit Levels:

  • Reserve: 30,000 to 49,999 points
  • Pinnacle: 50,000 points and above

At the same time, Chairman’s Club will no longer cover all owners with 15,000 points or more. Instead, Chairman’s Club will now range from 15,000 to 29,999 points.

This change creates a more layered structure at the top end of ownership. It gives Marriott Vacation Club room to offer different benefits to owners with larger portfolios, especially those who use the program heavily and value flexibility, conversion options, and on-site perks.

Changes To Qualifying Resale Purchases for Reserve and Pinnacle Membership Tiers

One of the most consequential changes in this update is the qualification rule for the two new tiers. Only Club Points and Enrolled Weeks purchased directly from or through the developer will count toward Reserve and Pinnacle status.

While it is expected that resale purchases would still allow owners to reach the Chairman’s Club level, this change represents the first time we have seen Marriott Vacation Club place restrictions on resale purchases.

Reservation Flexibility Is Changing in Summer 2026

Benefit Level 13-Month Booking Window
Owner 5+ night reservations
Select 3+ night reservations
Executive 1+ night reservations
Chairman’s Club 1+ night reservations
Reserve 1+ night reservations
Pinnacle 1+ night reservations

Reservation flexibility is one of the most practical updates in this announcement. Several booking window rules are changing, especially at the lower and upper ends of the tier system.

At the 13-month booking window:

  • Owner level owners will be able to book stays of 5 nights or more with no 20% point penalty that was charged prior to this update
  • Select owners will be able to reserve stays of 3 nights or more
  • Executive and above will still be able to reserve 1 night or more
  • Reserve and Pinnacle will also be able to reserve 1 night or more

This gives Owner and Select members more flexibility than before, which may help owners who want shorter stays while still planning ahead. It also keeps the strongest booking power in place for Executive and above, including the new Reserve and Pinnacle tiers.

There are also waitlist-related enhancements:

  • Luxury Resort Preferred Waitlist for The Ritz-Carlton Club properties
  • Preferred position on the waitlist for Marriott Vacation Club properties

These changes suggest Marriott is putting more emphasis on access, not just points value. For owners trying to secure high-demand inventory, better waitlist treatment may be just as important as booking discounts.

Last-Minute Reservation Discounts Are Expanding

Another major area of change involves last-minute Club Points reservation discounts. These discounts reward owners who book closer to arrival, and Marriott is widening access while increasing the value for higher tiers.

Here is how the updated discount structure works:

Benefit Level Previous Discount Previous Booking Window New Discount New Booking Window
Owner No Discount N/A No Discount N/A
Select No Discount N/A 25% 30 days
Executive 25% 30 days 30% 30 days
Presidential 30% 60 days 35% 60 days
Chairman’s Club 30% 60 days 40% 60 days
Reserve 45% 60 days
Pinnacle 50% 60 days

Select owners gaining a 25% discount is a useful enhancement for mid-level owners who travel on shorter notice. For higher tiers, the rising discount scale makes the difference between levels more visible. The new Reserve and Pinnacle levels clearly sit above the current structure, especially for owners who often book last-minute stays.

Marriott Bonvoy Conversions Favor the New Top Tiers

Owner Benefit Level Conversion Deadline Percent of Points That Can Be Converted New Conversion Ratio
Owner 6 months prior to the end of the Use Year 50% 1 Abound Point = 45 Bonvoy Points
Select 6 months prior to the end of the Use Year 50% 1 Abound Point = 45 Bonvoy Points
Executive 4 months prior to the end of the Use Year 65% 1 Abound Point = 50 Bonvoy Points
Presidential 4 months prior to the end of the Use Year 65% 1 Abound Point = 50 Bonvoy Points
Chairman’s Club 2 months prior to the end of the Use Year 75% 1 Abound Point = 55 Bonvoy Points
Reserve 1 month prior to the end of the Use Year 85% 1 Abound Point = 65 Bonvoy Points
Pinnacle 2 weeks prior to the end of the Use Year 100% 1 Abound Point = 75 Bonvoy Points

Marriott Bonvoy benefits are also changing, though not evenly across all levels. Select through Chairman’s Club owners are not seeing major changes in this area. The biggest enhancements go to Reserve and Pinnacle.

Both Reserve and Pinnacle owners will receive Titanium Elite status, which is also available to Presidential and Chairman’s Club owners. However, the real difference appears in Club Points conversion rules.

Reserve owners will be able to:

  • Convert up to 85% of Club Points to Bonvoy points
  • Make that conversion up to one month before the end of their use year
  • Use a conversion ratio of 65 Bonvoy points to 1 Club Point

Pinnacle owners will be able to:

  • Convert up to 100% of Club Points to Bonvoy points
  • Make that conversion up to two weeks before the end of their use year
  • Use a conversion ratio of 75 Bonvoy points to 1 Club Point

These changes provide more flexibility for owners who may not be using all of their Club Points for timeshare stays. They also increase the potential value of holding a large portfolio, especially for owners who also travel heavily within the broader Marriott hotel system.

Auto-Banking and Point-Use Flexibility Arrive in 2027

Some of the most owner-friendly changes are scheduled for 2027. These center on auto-banking and how banked points can be used.

For Reserve and Pinnacle owners, Club Points can be automatically banked if the owner does not bank them by the deadline:

  • Reserve: 75% of points automatically banked
  • Pinnacle: 100% of points automatically banked

Automatically banked points will expire after one year.

In addition, Chairman’s Club, Reserve, and Pinnacle owners will be able to use Club Points banked into the next use year in the current use year. Under the current system, once Club Points are banked, they generally cannot be borrowed back into the current year.

This update adds real planning flexibility. It may be especially helpful for owners whose travel needs change late in the year or who want a larger pool of usable points without relying on workaround strategies.

Holding Account Changes

Benefit Level Holding Account Points Booking Window
Owner through Chairman’s Club 60 days
Reserve 90 days
Pinnacle 120 days

There is also an important change involving Holding Account Club Points, which come from reservations canceled within 60 days of check-in. Currently, Owner through Presidential levels can use Holding Account points for reservations starting at 60 days.

Under the new rules:

  • Reserve owners can use Holding Account Club Points starting at 90 days
  • Pinnacle owners can use Holding Account Club Points starting at 120 days

This gives the top new tiers earlier access to canceled inventory, which may create more opportunities for flexible travelers.

Maintenance Fee Credits Will Become a New Redemption Option

Another new feature coming in 2027 is the ability to redeem Club Points for maintenance fee credits. This option will be available in 500-point increments for Select level owners and above. Owner level members will not be eligible.

Benefit Level Credit Per 500 Club Points Value Per Club Point Frequency Allowed
Select $125 $0.25 every other year
Executive $140 $0.28 every other year
Presidential $155 $0.31 every other year
Chairman’s Club $170 $0.34 every other year
Reserve $185 $0.37 every year
Pinnacle $200 $0.40 every year

Here is the value by tier:

  • Select: $125 for every 500 Club Points, or $0.25 per point
  • Executive: $140 for every 500 Club Points, or $0.28 per point
  • Presidential: $155 for every 500 Club Points, or $0.31 per point
  • Chairman’s Club: $170 for every 500 Club Points, or $0.34 per point
  • Reserve: $185 for every 500 Club Points, or $0.37 per point
  • Pinnacle: $200 for every 500 Club Points, or $0.40 per point

Usage frequency also varies by tier:

  • Select through Presidential: every other year
  • Reserve and Pinnacle: every year

Currently, Abound Club members pay $0.81480 per point, so this redemption would not represent a good use of your Abound Club points. It would be wise to consider banking the points, depositing the points with Interval International or some other creative way of preserving your usage.

On-Site Experience Benefits Are Being Expanded for Upper Tiers

Marriott is also adding a new category of on-site experience benefits. These perks are focused on Chairman’s Club, Reserve, and Pinnacle owners, with some features specifically reserved for Reserve and Pinnacle.

The announced benefits include:

  • Room or view upgrades, if available
  • Preferred access to designated social events
  • Priority check-in line, if available, for Reserve and Pinnacle
  • Exclusive happy hour
  • Dedicated owner lounge, if available
  • Preferred villa preference for Reserve, within the same reserved unit type
  • Dedicated concierge team support for Pinnacle owners while on vacation

These additions represent a shift toward a more hospitality-driven tier experience. Rather than focusing only on points and transaction rules, Marriott is building in benefits that are felt during the stay itself.

That may appeal to owners who want their status to affect the vacation experience, not just the booking process.

Vacation Experience Credits Are Also Changing

Marriott is updating how Club Point discounts apply to tours and cruises. These changes mainly benefit owners at Select level and above, with stronger discounts at higher tiers.

Guided Vacation Tour Discounts

Benefit Level Club Point Discount
Executive 150 Points
Presidential 200 Points
Chairman’s Club 300 Points
Reserve 400 Points
Pinnacle 500 Points

Cruise Discounts

Benefit Level Club Point Discount
Select 100 Points
Executive 150 Points
Presidential 200 Points
Chairman’s Club 300 Points
Reserve 400 Points
Pinnacle 500 Points

Pinnacle owners will also receive a Personal Vacation Advisor Team, which adds another service element at the highest tier.

These benefits may not affect every owner equally, but they show Marriott’s effort to broaden the value of membership beyond villa stays alone.

Car Rental and Travel-Related Updates

There are also updates connected to Hertz benefits.

  • Presidential and above will receive Hertz Five Star status through their Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status
  • Select and Executive owners will have a fast track to Hertz Five Star status via Marriott Bonvoy

The fast-track path appears to reduce the rental requirement from 10 Hertz rentals to 7. For owners who rent cars often, that can be a useful add-on, though it is more of a secondary perk than a core timeshare benefit.

Luxury Residences Collection & Luxury Cruise Access

Starting in fall 2026, Reserve and Pinnacle owners will have access to the Curated Luxury Residences Collection. Marriott has not fully explained what this includes, but it may involve access to high-end residence-style properties.

Also in summer 2026, Reserve and Pinnacle owners will gain Luxury Cruise Access. That language is still somewhat unclear, especially since Club Points can already be used for many cruise bookings. More detail will likely be needed before owners can judge its value.

What These Marriott Vacation Club Membership Changes May Mean for Owners

The new Marriott Vacation Club membership changes are doing two things at once. First, they are creating more separation between mid-tier, upper-tier, and ultra-high-tier owners. Second, they are expanding the kinds of benefits tied to ownership, including booking flexibility, discounts, service perks, and non-stay redemption options.

For some owners, the updates to Select and Owner benefits may be the most meaningful because they improve flexibility without requiring any increase in points. For others, the real story is the launch of Reserve and Pinnacle, especially with stronger discounts, better conversion rules, expanded on-site perks, and annual maintenance fee credit options.

The biggest question may be whether those new top-tier benefits are compelling enough to justify additional direct purchases, which is undoubtedly why Marriott created these new top-tier membership levels. Because only developer-purchased Club Points and Enrolled Weeks count toward Reserve and Pinnacle status, owners will need to look carefully at both the cost and the practical value. We suspect many owners will still choose purchasing additional points on the resale market due to the incredible savings that can be found when compared to buying directly from Marriott.

We hope this article helps you understand the upcoming changes for Abound membership levels. Feel free to contact our agents for a free consultation if you have any questions, or need any further assistance in buying or selling Abound Club points.
